ST. PAUL — NRHEG High School’s athletic legacy not only lives on at the University of Minnesota, it’s alive and well on the Corcordia campus.

Anna Schlaak, a 2012 graduate of NRHEG, had a dominant performance last Saturday as the No. 2 ranked Golden Bears captured a four-set win over Winona State in the Holiday Inn and Suites Lake Elmo Volleyball Clash.

Schlaak, a 5-foot-9 junior who red-shirted her freshman year, was the story of the match as she equaled the school record for most kills in a match with 34 as she hit an impressive .518. Her mark of 34 matched Emily Palkert's record set in 2007 and shattered the four-set record of 26 held by three different players. Her previous career high in kills was 25.

Schlaak was consistently dominant as she hit .477 or better with at least six kills in each set to lead the Golden Bears to victory.

Want to see Anna play this year? There are plenty of opportunities. The team plays its home matches at the Gangelhoff Center in St. Paul, site of the NRHEG girls’ basketball team’s third-place state tournament game in 2012. They play at Minnesota State-Mankato Oct. 20.

Many of the team’s matches can be streamed on line at www.cugoldenbears.com.

Schlaak received honorable mention All-America recorgnition after the 2014 season, when she ranked 32nd in the nation with 3.84 kills per set and 18th in the nation with 457 kills

In high school, Schlaak was a four-time all-conference volleyball player who also excelled in basketball, softball and track.

Daughter of Neil and Jill Schlaak, she is a biology major and chemistry minor and plans to become a pharmacist.

The 2013 Concordia volleyball team made NCAA history by becoming the first NCAA volleyball program to capture seven consecutive NCAA championships, across all three divisions. The seven straight titles is also the fourth-longest NCAA Division II women's championship streak in any sport.

Adding to the impressive feat by the program, Concordia has been an NCAA Division II member for 15 years (1999-2000) with the first year of NCAA postseason eligibility in 2002-03.

Coach Brady Starkey has the highest career win percentage in NCAA Volleyball (.919, 374-33).
