The faculty at NRHEG High School has announced the Students of the Month for school year 2010-11. The students, all seniors, were selected by the different departments at the school based on a number of factors.

Band — Hannah Moe. She has been active in band her whole high school career and served as captain for the color guard. Hannah is a member of the National Honor Society, cheerleader and plays golf for the Panther golf team. She is the daughter of Greg and Donna Moe.

F.A.C.S. — Jonathan Walstrom. He has been a four-time letter winner for the Panther golf team and also bowls for the Albert Lea High School team. He has made the ‘A’ Honor Roll and lists fishing and salt water aquariums as his hobbies. Jonathan’s parents are Garry and Sandy Walstrom.

Science — Kyle Bayerkohler. The three sport athlete (football, basketball, track and field) enjoys spending time with family and friends. Kyle is in the National Honor Society and a Knowledge Bowl participant. Dale and Carol Bayerkohler are Kyle’s parents.

Math — Anthony Wacholz. The Senior Class Treasurer won’t let anything happen to the money since he is a Black Belt (Second Degree) in Tae Kwon Do. Tony enjoys solving math and logic problems and throws shot and discus on the track team. He is on the roster of the National Honor Society and an accomplished drummer. He is the son of Lane and Sarah Wacholz of New Richland.

English — Katie Carlson. The daughter of Brian and Christine Carlson is on the school newspaper staff and involved with tutoring and mentoring an elementary student. She has served as a teacher’s assistant and enjoys time spent with family and friends.

Spanish — Shauntel Thiele. The National Honor Society student was a member of the state championship competition cheerleading team for NRHEG. Shauntel’s hobbies include 4-H, four wheeling, hunting, fishing and driving her truck. She is the daughter of Joel and Michelle Thiele.

Social Studies — Pieter Majeske. Music is a huge part of Pieter’s life as he has been active in band and choir his entire high school career, earning numerous awards. He served as Co-President of the Senior Class and has performed in the Reader’s Theatre and Drama Club. The National Honor Society member is the son of Bryan and Debbie Majeske.

Business — Lisa Dummer. She has been active in cheerleading, basketball, volleyball and has worked on the school yearbook. Lisa enjoys being outdoors, fishing, boating and riding on her dad’s Harley. Her parents are Gary and Gayle Dummer.

Music — Katelyn Klug. The National Honor Society member plays tuba in the school band and is involved with choir. Katelyn likes being outside, playing and listening to music, or being with family and friends. George and Joanne Klug are her parents.

Art — Jessica Stenzel. She has been very active in the FFA and has been on the state qualifying teams in various areas. Jessica has been an honor roll student and was Junior Editor of the NRHEG yearbook staff. She plays soccer and enjoys her 4-H projects. Her parents are Jerome and Diane Stenzel.

Ag Ed — Emily Riihl. She is a member of the National Honor Society and President of the FFA chapter. She is a member of the band and an active member in Waseca County 4-H. Emily’s hobbies include quilting, cross stitching, and showing livestock. Her parents are Wesley and Joy Riihl.

Office and Admin — This department had two selections.

Logan Davis. She has been a teacher’s assistant and played basketball and volleyball. Logan was a member of the Knowledge Bowl team and is in the choir. During the summer, she can be found at St. Olaf Lake teaching swimming lessons and lifeguarding. She is the daughter of Brian and Peggy Davis.

Amber Schmit. She is a member of the track and field team and sings in the school choir. In her spare time she enjoys hunting, fishing, going for walks and her friends. Jerry and Melissa Schmit are her parents.

Health and Wellness — Cory Kaupa. He is a member of the newly formed NRHEG Trap Shooting Team. Cory has played football, and lists paintball and locksmithing as his hobbies. His parents are John and Connie Kaupa.
