LeRoy Vernon Sutlief, 88, of Owatonna, died Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at Koda Living Community. 

He was born January 27, 1926 in New Richland, Minnesota to William and Ida (Kraude) Sutlief. LeRoy was baptized on April 11, 1926 at First Congregational Church in New Richland and was confirmed on June 1, 1941 at St Peter’s Lutheran Church, New Richland. On March 12, 1943, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving in the Aleutian Islands during World War II. On February 15, 1948, he married Alice Neumann at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in New Richland. In 1950, they moved to Albert Lea where LeRoy worked for Concrete Minnesota as a truck driver. Upon retirement in 1998, they moved to Rochester and to Owatonna in 2013.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Alice, and their two daughters, Karin (Red) Anderson of Rochester and Kathy (Stanley) Honsey of Owatonna and 10 grandchildren: Jim (Renee) Anderson, Joe Anderson, Amy (Cheryl) Honsey, Kelly (Ken) Moyer, Kimberly (Robert) Dub, Roxanne (Tim) Thorn, Lowell (Christi) Honsey, Jessica (Marshall) Honsey, Cody (Chelsea) Honsey, and Matthew Honsey.  He is also survived by twenty-seven great grandchildren: Casey, Katie, Cadi, Cori, Erich, Nicholas, Joshua, Amanda, AJ, Braeden, Griffin, Chucky, Jacob, Christi, Spencer, Mikey, Owen, Joey, Addison,  Jayden, Emily, Aiden, Mya, Arianna, Emery, Serenity, and Caleb and  seven great-great grandchildren: Destiny, Elijah, Blake, Dakotah, Lilliana, Jocelyn and Justin.  

He was preceded in death by his son, Charles Otto, his parents, and his five brothers; Walter, Earl, Irwin, Ralph, and Charles.

Visitation will be at St. John Lutheran Church on Monday May 19, 2014 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Funeral services will be held Monday May 19, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church with Pastor Dave Klawiter officiating. Interment will be in the Graceland Cemetery in Albert Lea. Military honors will be provided by the Steele County Military Funeral Unit. Michaelson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
