Funeral services for Lester E. Schlaak will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, New Richland. The Reverend Scott Williams will officiate. Visitation will be held Tuesday, from 5-8 p.m. at Fredrich Funeral Home, in New Richland, and again one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at St. Peter Cemetery at a later date.

Lester Ernest Schlaak of New Richland passed away on Sunday, March 9, 2014 at the New Richland Care Center. He was 87 years old.

He was born August 29, 1926, in Waseca, to Benhart and Martha (Krueger) Schlaak. He attended rural country schools through the 8th grade.  He served his country in World War II as a member of the US Army. He was active in the Pacific Theater and completed his service as part of the Occupation Forces stationed in Tokyo, Japan.

He was united in marriage to Alice Rosin in Nicollet, MN on August 29, 1949. They made their home in rural Waseca on the same farm that his father and grandfather before him had worked. Lester was a lifetime member of the VFW and a very active member of Andrew Borgen Post 75 of the American Legion, having served as a past commander.

Lester is survived by his wife, Alice who is also a resident of the New Richland Care Center; two sons, David (Loretta) Schlaak, of Waseca, and Eugene (MaryAnn) Schlaak, of New Richland; one daughter, Barbara (Gary) Paulson, of Waseca; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Martha; brother, Leonard; sisters, Leona Witts and Marion Nasby; and one great-granddaughter, Alice Lee Schlaak.
