The grand opening of the New Richland Public Library will be on Monday, November 18. A 7 p.m. program will feature author Rachael Hanel.

Hanel, a Waseca native, has written her first adult book, "We will be the last ones to let you down:  memoir of a gravedigger's daughter." The book was published by the University of Minnesota Press.

Madison Lake is the present home of this university instructor. Hanel has published essays in several literary journals and also had an essay selected as a Notable Essay in the "2012 Best American Essays." She has written 20 children's nonfiction books for a Mankato publisher.

Hanel’s day will begin at the NRHEG High School where she will speak to English classes. Both "Extreme Non-Fiction" and "Creative Writing" classes will learn about the process of writing and publishing.

The evening program will include time for questions and book purchasing and autographing. It might be a chance to buy Christmas gifts. Refreshments and a chance to enjoy the new library will conclude the evening.

The presentations are made possible through a grant from Arts and Cultural Heritage Funds (ACHF) distributed by the Traverse des Sioux Library Cooperative(TdS). The New Richland Public Library is a member of this nine county library system. Take advantage of this opportunity for an enjoyable and educational evening.  We hope to have the library filled to capacity or standing room only.
