Apparently, fun was the right choice for the NRHEG High School Marching Band.

The Panthers, who didn’t expect to win at this year’s Waseca Marching Classic, had a lot of fun with a new routine and captured second place in the competition Saturday, Sept. 21.

“This year we’re not looking to win, that’s not our goal,” Director Tim Siewert said last week. “If it happens, that’s great, but we are there to entertain the crowd and have fun.”

The band performed “Party Rock Anthem” by LMFAO, and boogied down the street with the crowd clapping and singing along. Even the judges were all smiles and engaging the Panther band members as they shuffled down the parade route.

The band members were hoping for the People’s Choice Award, but were very happy their overall second-place finish in the Class A parade competition.

“I'm very glad we decided to change our show from what we did this summer,” said Siewert. “The kids had an absolute blast and I've never seen them have that much fun and get that excited. It was just a great day. I am very pleased with their performance today. We had a successful season and this was a great way to finish it.”
