The 2013 NRHEG High School Marching Band season officially comes to a conclusion Saturday, Sept. 21 at 12:30 p.m. with the Waseca Marching Classic.

The Panthers have fared well at the event in the past, winning their class three years in a row and six of the last seven, but according to Director Tim Siewert, the emphasis is somewhat different this time.

“This year we’re not looking to win, that’s not our goal,” said Siewert. “If it happens, that’s great, but we are there to entertain the crowd and have fun.”

The one award the band is shooting for is the People’s Choice Award.

“Competition is a part of marching band, but it’s not our top priority,” said Siewert. “Our philosophy is to enjoy what we do, work hard, and represent our school and community as best as possible. If we are passionate about what we do and get the crowd up off their feet, then we’ve done our job.”

The Panthers had a busy summer, marching in nine parades, some hot, some wet, but Siewert said it all went well.

“The kids worked hard and had a good time,” he stated.

At Waseca, fans of the Marching Panthers can expect something new.

“Our show for the Waseca parade is going to be something completely different from what we did this summer, both musically and visually,” said Siewert. “It will represent our philosophy very well, and show our passion and spirited attitude.”
