6th-grade orientation Monday at 6:30 p.m.

There is an orientation planned for all students entering 6th grade and their parents on Monday, August 26 at 6:30 p.m. This orientation will begin in the NRHEG High School cafeteria in New Richland. This will be an opportunity for you to visit the building, meet with the 6th-grade teachers, gather information about what a typical day will be like, and learn about the expectations we have for our students. We look forward to meeting you and cannot wait for a great year!


Harvest Run for Hunger September 21

The annual Harvest Run for Hunger is set for Saturday, September 21. There will be a 7K run and a 4K walk. It will be held at Zion Lutheran Church in Ellendale, 7126 SW 98th Street, which is 12 miles Southwest of Owatonna. The walk begins at 8:30 a.m. and the run begins 9. For children 10 years and under, no entry free is required for the walk. Registration forms are available online at: harvestrunforhunger.com and raceberryjam.com (under Road Races).


SCHS offers low cost spey/neuter services

On Saturday, September 7, the Steele County Humane Society, in conjunction with MNSNAP, will be offering low cost spay/neuter services for companion animals and free roaming, community outdoor cats (feral cats). For more information and to find out if you qualify contact MNSNAP at 612-720-8236. If no answer, leave a message, phone calls will be returned, or visit their Web site MNSNAP.org. These clinics fill up fast and space is limited so contact MNSNAP today to pre-register (do not contact the humane society to pre-register). 


EHS Class of 1958 reunion Saturday

An Ellendale High School Class Get Together is being planned for Saturday, August 24th, in Geneva, starting at 6 p.m., with dinner at 7. The EHS Class of 1958 is planning a reunion and inviting anyone attending Ellendale High School from 1955 to 1960 to join them. The event will be held at the Geneva Community Center and the cost is $17.50 per person, or $35 per couple. BYOB with party ice and cups furnished and food by George's. If you would like to attend the reunion, but not do dinner, just BYOB and come to the Geneva Comunity Center after 8. Sarah McCarthy benefit Sunday

A benefit for Sarah McCarthy will be held Sunday, August 25 from 8:30-12:30 at the Waldorf Community Center consisting of a pancake breakfast, silent auction, and bake sale. Supplemental funds are being provided by Thrivent Financial. Donations may be sent to the Sarah McCarthy fund at the Round Bank in Waldorf. Sarah was diagnosed with breast cancer in November 2012 and has received chemotherapy and radiation following a double mastectomy.


Grief Support Series starts August 28

Mayo Clinic Health System’s Hospice department will offer a Grief Support Series beginning August 28 through October 2. The series will meet each Wednesday from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Hospice office located at Health Reach Campus 1705 SE Broadway, Albert Lea, Minnesota. This mutual-help series provides emotional support and shares practical help within in a supportive environment to achieve a better understanding of the grief process. The series is free and open to any adult who has experienced a loss through death.
