The NRHEG girls’ track and field team already knew United South Central/Alden-Conger was tough.

The Rebels showed them again anyway.

USC/AC topped an eight-team field at Mapleton last Thursday with 183.5 points, easily outpacing the second-place Panthers’ 103.

“The girls saw just how strong USC/AC can be,” said Panthers coach Duey Ferber. “They are going to be tough to beat at the conference meet.”

Rounding out the field: Minnesota Valley Lutheran 73, Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial/Nicollet 58.5, Madelia-Truman 55, Maple River 48 and Mankato Loyola 36.

Freshman Carlie Wagner continued to lead NRHEG, winning three events. She was first in the 200 meters in 27.27 seconds, first in the 400 in 1:01.8 and first in the high jump at 5-2. Wagner added a third-place finish in the long jump.

Senior Jill Kalis collected NRHEG’s other first, taking the discus with a toss of 113-7.5.

Abby Crabtree, Samantha Hogstad, Paige Bolduan and Raelin Schue teamed for second in the 4x100 relay in 56.42.

Other Panther places: Anna Schlaak, third, high jump and sixth, 100 hurdles; Amber Schmit, third, shot put and fourth, discus; Kaylee Maxon, third, discus and fifth, shot put; 4x200 relay, third (Hailey Schuller, Danielle Krueger, Schlaak, Schue); Katherine Lewer, fourth, 3200; Abby Crabtree, fourth, pole vault and sixth, 1600; Mikala Lindell, fourth, shot put; 4x400 relay, fifth (Schuller, Taylar Tieskotter, Abby Wacholz, Jamie Ulrich); Krueger, sixth, 800; Katie Cole, sixth, long jump; Wacholz, sixth, triple jump.

“Katherine Lewer had a nice 3200 race,” said Ferber. “Carlie and Jill had strong performances tonight.”

The next day the Panthers traveled to Blue Earth Area and ran into a hot home team, which won with 177 points. NRHEG was second with 86, followed by Martin County West with 40, Madelia-Truman 39 and LCWM/N 30.

Wagner won the 200 (26.59), 400 (62.27) and high jump (4-10). Kalis was first in the discus (107-11.5) and Krueger won the 800 (2:40.2).

Other NRHEG places: Schlaak, second, 100 hurdles and fourth, high jump; 4x100, second (Crabtree, Hogstad, Krueger, Schlaak); 4x200, second (Schuller, Krueger, Hogstad, Schlaak); Maxon, third, discus; Schuller, third, 300 hurdles and sixth, long jump; Wacholz, third, high jump; Lindell, fourth, discus; Emily Habeck, fourth, 300 hurdles; Crabtree, fourth, pole vault and fifth, 1600; Schmit, fifth, discus; Cole, fifth, 300 hurdles; Tieskotter, fifth, triple jump.

“In absolutely terrible weather, we still performed pretty well,” said Ferber. “We had a nice warm meet. It will do a lot for team morale. It was a good effort tonight by the girls.”

The Panthers traveled to Blooming Prairie Tuesday, May 3. They compete at Maple River May 10.
