David Richard Brandt, 64

David Brandt of Owatonna died May 6, 2013 at Homestead Hospice House in Owatonna after a two-year battle with brain cancer. Funeral service is set for Friday, May 10, 2013 11 a.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Owatonna with the Rev. John Weisenburger presiding. A private family interment will take place at Forest Hill Cemetery in Owatonna. Friends may greet the family on Thursday, May 9, 2013 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Brick – Meger Funeral Home (1603 – Austin Road, Owatonna) and one hour before the time of service at the church.

David was born December 16, 1948 in Blooming Prairie to Rayman and Hazel (Billing) Brandt. He graduated from Blooming Prairie High School in 1966. After graduation, he enlisted in the Air Force and served four years in Okinawa and Japan. After he was honorably discharged from the Air Force, David was united in marriage to Linda Jirele on November 11, 1972 at Holy Trinity Church Litomysl. This union brought three children Teresa, Anthony and Renee. The couple made their home in Blooming Prairie. David worked for the telephone industry in Blooming Prairie for 29 years. The couple moved to Owatonna and for the past 11 years he worked for Verizon Wireless. His life interests include fishing, camping, golfing, playing cribbage and spending time with his family and grandchildren. 

David is survived by his wife Linda; children: Teresa (Chris) Zupancich of Duluth, MN, Anthony (Heather) Brandt of Van Alstyne, TX and Renee (James) Bowman of Indianapolis, IN; seven grandchildren - Carter and Tyler Zupancich; Ashleigh, Samantha, Preston, Connor and Owen Brandt; two brothers: Robert (Dorothy) Brandt of Aitkin, MN and Allen (Betty) Brandt of Frazee, MN; and one sister Barbara (Allen) Dobberstein of Ellendale, MN, along with several aunts, uncle, nieces and nephews.
