The New Richland City Council held its second meeting of April Monday evening. The meeting started at 6:30 p.m. and lasted until 7:30. All members of the council were present. They approved the agenda with consent items added.

The first order of business was the People’s Service Report. They talked about cleaning up the sewer mains on Third Street Northwest and North Birch. Brad Field made the point that there is some Orange Bird around some houses in town, a substance that was used in the past. It’s not a good thing to have around, so they need to have someone clean it out.

The Care Center report was next. The council approved the minutes, financials, and accounts payable for March. They went over the Money Market Report and a fund balance sheet. The Director of Nursing and the Business Office Manager’s assistant both resigned from their positions last Wednesday. They are getting Paulette Wolf as an interim Director of Nursing until they can get someone full time. There are already 10 applications for the position as well as 20-plus for the Business Office Manager’s assistant position. The council approved the contract for the interim Director of Nursing as well as $1,100 to build a new storage room.

Next was the ambulance report. They asked for the purchase of new radios. These radios would be dual radios, which would run in the back of the rig for the hospital and run in the front for dispatch. The council decided to wait until the next meeting to make a decision so they have time to go over the information.

A presentation of grants from the New Richland Area Foundation Fund was next. They awarded grants to the Town and Country Garden Club, New Richland Sportsmen’s Club, the ambulance crew, and the Girl Scouts for doing things to help the city. The council approved resolutions accepting the grant donations.

The last order of business was discussing the fire department getting a new skid unit. The council approved the amount of $3,900 for the fire department to go over to Eden Prairie and pick a truck they liked.
