Despite cool temperatures and a steady drizzle, the NRHEG Panther boys’ golf team had decent scoring as they topped Faribault Bethlehem Academy 174-183 at Riverview Golf Course Thursday, April 21.
Jon Walstrom led all scorers with a 40, earning him medalist honors. Senior Aaron Patraw was close behind with a 43. Sam Grothem (45) and Matt Nafe (46) also figured in the team score. Spencer Hanna fired a 48 and Jake Langlie had a 55. BA’s Aaron Forgaard had a 41.
Maddy Reed shot a 51 to lead the Panther girls and the rest of the field in the inclement weather, but NRHEG lost a close match to BA 226-228. Michaela Hansen carded a 56, Abbey Holland 58, Hannah Moe and Brina Bergland each had a 63. Madddy Schwierjohann came in with a 73. Allie Carlander was low for BA with a 53.
“I am proud of all of my golfers for playing hard in the horrible weather,” said NRHEG coach Brad Root. “The boys played well and Maddy [Reed] played awesome for 40 degrees and rain. A nice surprise was Cole Lenort shooting a 46 in the junior varsity match.”
The Panthers play host to the USC Rebels this Thursday at Riverview GC. They travel to Triton on May 3 and host JWP on May 4.
