Manuel A. Johnson, 76, of Hartland, died Monday, September 17, 2012 in Owatonna.

He was born May 31, 1936 in New Richland, Minnesota the son of Myrtle and Monroe (Hanson) Johnson. He grew up on a farm near Hope.  He attended school in Hope. After his schooling he then worked on the family farm.  He entered the United States Army and served three years until his honorable discharge. He then went to work for a freight delivery service in the metropolitan area. Manuel moved to Wisconsin where he farmed near Menomonie for a number of years. He returned to Minnesota where he drove semi before becoming self-employed as a carpenter.

Manuel was fascinated with cars and tractors and they way they were built. He enjoyed carpentry and designed the inside of his home. He also loved going on drives and enjoying the beauty of the earth.

He is survived by his three children, Kevin Johnson, Sheila Johnson, and Manuel Johnson Jr.; his mother, Myrtle Johnson of Medford; two brothers, Donald Johnson of The Villages, FL, and David Johnson of Medford; two sisters, Phyllis Kern and Shirley Rose both of Fountain Hills, AZ; brother-in-law, Gary Halvorson of Owatonna; girlfriend, Genevieve Wayne of Owatonna; nieces and nephews, and good friend Tim Cliff of Hartland.

He was preceded in death by his father, Monroe, sister, Patricia Halvorson, and infant sister, Carol Ann.

Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Friday, September 21, 2012 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 21, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Michaelson Funeral Home with The Reverend Lisa Dodd officiating. Full military honors will be provided by the Steele County Military Funeral Unit. Interment will be in the Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.
