Both athletes will compete in the state meet Friday. Wagner will go in the high jump finals at 3:30 p.m. and in the 200 preliminaries at approximately 5:54. If she reaches the finals in the 200, Wagner will run Saturday at approximately 6:30 p.m. Schiltz runs in the 3200 finals at approximately 6:27 Friday.
There was some heartbreak as well for the Panthers at Mankato.
Senior Danielle Krueger pulled a hamstring in the 4x200 relay and was unable to compete in the 400.
“That was very disappointing,” said Ferber. “She had a shot to make it to state in the 400. It’s not the way she wanted to end her career.”
The 4x200 team of Wagner, Krueger, Gretchen Ramaker and Hailey Schuller finished fifth in 1:49.74. Wagner, Schuller, Ramaker and Abby Crabtree combined for seventh in the 4x100 in 53.24.
The other points for the NRHEG girls came in the field. Mikayla Lindell was seventh in the shot put at 36-2 and Emmy Hobbs was eighth in the pole vault at 8-2.
The NRHEG girls finished 11th in the team standings.
Schiltz continued his sensational spring to lead the boys.
“T.J. ran such a smart race,” said Ferber of Schiltz’s 3200 performance. “Hard work and dedication all led up to today’s race.”
Also placing for the boys, who were 13th as a team: 4x200 relay, seventh, 1:39.04 (Geoff Ramaker, Ross Chester, Raece Johnson, Nate Krause); Chester, eighth, long jump, 19-0 1/4; Keith Maxon, eighth, discus, 127-3; Tyler Holz, 10th, pole vault, 11-0.
“The 4x200 had tough competition,” said Ferber. “Ross did well, but wanted to jump 20 feet. Keith performed well in the discus. Holzy matched his PR on his last meet.”
