The first event in the Summer Burst Concert Series took place on Sunday, June 25 from 3:30 – 5 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Richland.
The concert, which had to be relocated from the City Park to the church due to rain, turned out to be an example of what happens when the community pulls together to make something happen. Trinity Lutheran offered the use of their beautiful facilities, while church volunteers contacted the ever-present Delane Nelson when they found out the church had to be rewired to provide the 220 voltage necessary for both the band and the food truck outside.

A New Richland man was killed the morning of Wednesday, June 21, in a collision with a semi.
58-year-old Scott Bolduan was traveling southbound on Highway 13 between Hartland and New Richland at about 11:07 a.m in a 2006 Dodge Ram truck when he was struck by a semi-truck driven by Darryn Bullock, a 35-year-old man from Dallas, North Carolina.
Troopers say Bolduan wasn’t wearing a seat belt and died at the scene. Bullock suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to the Owatonna hospital. He later was charged with felony vehicular homicide (operating a motor vehicle in grossly negligent manner) in Waseca County District Court.

‘Happy place’ is everything Rourke wanted

“The bed. And the ‘fridge.”
Rourke Wacholz, 6, has little patience with questions this morning of Sunday, June 25. He has returned home to see the makeover his room has been receiving the past couple of days. But he is able to identify two favorites.
In addition to the lofted bed–the request he was most excited about–he has returned home to find new carpeting, freshly painted walls, a toy chest filled with dinosaurs, a special circular ceiling light with a small ceiling fan inside it, and even a karaoke machine and a small refrigerator that can hold up to four child-sized beverages.
All four members of the Wacholz family–Rourke, his younger brother Arlo, 4, and parents Chelsey and Mike–have spent the last two days elsewhere, asked to return no sooner than 11:30 today.

Saturday's events at Ellendale Days this year started out with a cloudburst as some planned activities were nearly drowned out.
Whereas in most years proud motorists linger throughout the morning to discuss their prized antique vehicles at the car show at the United Methodist Church, this year's contest had them beating a hasty retreat to get out of the downpour. Fortunately, Lions Club members Becky Larson, Cindy Nelson, Allie Larson, and Nola Roberts had the good fortune to be able to sell goodies under an awning, a benefit contestants could only enjoy behind the wheels of their cars.
Dick David and Becky David Lassahn were on hand to oversee the yearly First Lutheran Church Rummage Sale to benefit the youth group, but, as shoppers had to venture out into the rain to get there, the parking lot was not overcrowded.
