Fay C. Gora, 76, of Onalaska died Wednesday, May 10, 2017, after a long, courageous battle with cancer.

Fay was born Aug. 14, 1940, in Albert Lea, Minn., to Alma (Amundson) and Glen Routh. She was raised on a farm with her three brothers and three sisters. She graduated from New Richland High School in 1958, and continued her education at Mankato State University, graduating in 1962 with a Bachelor of Science degree in English and physical education. She later went on to earn her Master’s degree at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. Fay began her teaching career in 1962 in Burlington, Iowa. She continued her career in Mankato, Minn., and Elizabethtown, Ky., where she taught ninth-grade English. Fay also taught physical education at Lake Crystal High School in Minnesota before settling down in West Salem in 1971, where she taught eighth-grade English for 31 years. After 40 years of teaching, Fay retired from West Salem Middle School and began volunteering. Fay volunteered at Mayo Clinic Hospice, Mayo Cancer Center, The Pump House and the jail ministry.

Some of Fay’s many interests and hobbies included reading, Pilates, movies, concerts, the theatre, watercolor painting and traveling, but her biggest pleasure was her friends and family. She demonstrated the true meaning of friendship and knew the value of true friends.

Eva Elaine Rollins, age 91, of Pemberton died peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Mankato.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 16 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Waldorf. Interment will be in St. Joseph Community Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, May 15 at Starkson & Steffel Funeral & Cremation Services - Arnoldt Chapel of Janesville, and again continue for one hour prior to the Mass at church on Tuesday. Memorials are preferred to St. Joseph Catholic Church and The Mapleton Community Home.

Eva Elaine Rollins was born on October 14, 1925 to Charles and Eva (Frederick) Hoehn in Madison Lake. At age three, Eva suffered from polio which caused a lifelong disability that never slowed her down. She attended All Saints Catholic School through 8th grade, and she continued her education at Gillette’s Children Hospital in Minneapolis where she was treated for complications as a result of polio. After leaving school she began working as a housekeeper for families in the area as a way to help her family.

A memorial service for Roger L. Staloch will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday May 11, 2017 at the Friedrich Funeral Home in New Richland, MN. Pastor Charles Espe will officiate. Visitation will take place from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday at Friedrich Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to the service on Thursday.

Roger passed away suddenly on Friday May 5, 2017 in Wells, MN. He was 72 years old.

Roger Leon Staloch was born on June 27, 1944 to George and Margaret (Lenort) Staloch in Albert Lea, MN. He attended and graduated high school from Freeborn. He joined the United States Army Reserves in 1964 as an Armor Crewman and received honors as a Sharpshooter (Rifle). He completed his duty with an Honorable Discharge in 1970. He was united in marriage to Anita (Anderson) on December 28, 1966 in Minneapolis, MN. Together they had four children. Roger started his family in Wells working on a Hog Farm and later went to work at Herter’s and moved to New Richland where he remained.

Pastor David Brown III, former pastor at Geneva/Ellendale United Methodist Churches, passed away May 6.

Visitation is Thursday from 4-6 p.m. at Hope UMC, Blue Earth. Funeral is Friday 1 p.m. at Hope UMC with visitation 1 hour before.

Phyllis Pauline Hanson, 90, of Maple Plain, Minnesota, died April 12, 2017, at Haven Homes in Maple Plain.

Phyllis Pauline was born Dec. 5, 1926, in Armstrong, Iowa, to Florence P. (Payne) and Charles T. Petersen. She lived in the Minnesota communities of Hollandale, Hayward, Oakland, Moscow, Austin, Albert Lea and Alden until her marriage on Jan. 23, 1946, to Paul E. Hanson. They lived on a farm in Bath Township until July 1957 when they moved to Clarks Grove on Independence Avenue. They built a house on the east side of Clarks Grove and lived there for 23 years. After Paul's death, Phyllis moved to Bancroft Creek Estates in Albert Lea in January 2002. In 2012, she moved to Bryant House Assisted Living in Maple Plain.

Phyllis graduated from Austin High School in 1944, attended ALTEC in 1972-1973, and ALAVTI in 1982-83. She loved to learn.

Phyllis was very active in the community. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Clarks Grove and the Crusaders Sunday School Class. She also taught in the WEE school program and was a member of several committees. She served on the PTA Council of District 241 and was a school bus driver for 13 years. Phyllis served on the Freeborn County Historical Society, Freeborn Council 4-H Advisory Board, and was a 4-H leader for 20 years. Phyllis was a correspondent for the Albert Lea Tribune and Ellendale Eagle. She also was a member of the Naeve Hospital Auxiliary and Ride Services.
