Eugene Kammerer, 87, of Ellendale, died Wednesday, January 11, 2012, at Homestead Hospice House. 

Eugene was born March 1, 1924 near Medford the son of Leo and Joyce (Ellsworth) Kammerer.  He was raised and attended country school near Medford.  Eugene was united in marriage to Marilyn Jensen on January 12, 1946 in Geneva.  They made their home in Albert Lea where he worked at Wilson Meat Packing plant.  They then moved to Geneva and later to Owatonna where he worked with his father-in-law at Jensen Manufacturing making cabinets and doing carpentry work.  Eugene also farmed.  They moved to Ellendale where he lived until the time of his death.

Marilyn and Eugene loved dancing and would always find places to dance on weekends.  He also enjoyed playing Bingo, going to casinos, his apple trees and watching professional wrestling.

He is survived by his wife Marilyn Kammerer of Ellendale; two daughters, Linda (and Richard) Weckwerth of Geneva; Martha (and Mike) Jensen of Wichita, KS; a son, Craig (and Janet) Kammerer of Pine River; a sister, Maxine Wulf of Duluth; a brother, Roger Kammerer of Roanoke, TX; five grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The visitation will be held on Friday, January 13, 2012 from 6 to 7 p.m. at Geneva Community Lutheran Church.  Memorial service will be held on Friday, January 13, 2012 at 7 p.m. in Geneva Community Lutheran Church with the Reverend Carrie McElfresh officiating.  Interment will be held at a later date in the spring at St. Ansgar Cemetery, rural Ellendale.  Arrangements are pending with the Michaelson Funeral Home, Owatonna. 


John E. Tesch, 88, of New Richland, MN, died Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at Hillcrest Health Care Center, Mankato, MN. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 13, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, Waldorf, MN, Pastor Michael Mathews officiating. Burial will be at First Lutheran Cemetery in Waldorf, MN. Visitation will be held at the Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells on Thursday, January 12, 2012 from 4-7 p.m. and one hour before services at the church on Friday. Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells is in charge of the arrangements. 

John was born July 17, 1923 at the farmstead of Alfred and Elisabeth (Kain) Tesch in rural New Richland. He married Elaine Heitner on June 10, 1945 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, North Mankato, MN; the service was performed by Elaine’s brother, the Rev. Donald Heitner. John and Elaine purchased and farmed the family farm which became a “Century Farm” in 2007. John enjoyed his church activities where he held various offices. He enjoyed his sports and later enjoyed playing with the “Beltones.” He loved visiting and helping his family and friends, playing cards, fishing, hunting and traveling to be with his family and friends.

John is survived by his wife, Elaine (Heitner) Tesch of New Richland, MN; children: “Geri” Gurene (Larry) Putz of Brooten, MN; Joan (Jim) Lewer of Omaha, NE; “Stan” Stanley (Donna) Tesch of Plainview, MN; and “BJ” Beverly Tesch of Mankato, MN; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Elizabeth Tesch; infant brother, Alvin; infant sister, Bertha; brother, Carl; sisters, Sophia Hedberg and Pearl Mauer; and also an infant great-granddaughter, Julia Lewer.

Remembering the life of Rev. Dee Dunn…

Delores “Dee” Dunn, was born on December 17, 1930, in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of David and Madeline E. (Buckarma) Sabbadino.  

Dee graduated from Beecher high school in 1949 where she excelled as an athlete in basketball, softball, track and field hockey.  She graduated in 1954 from Michigan State College, majoring in teaching, with a focus in Physical Education and Science.  

Dee married Wallace A. Dunn of Ellendale MN on July 31, 1954 and raised three children: David Brandt Dunn of Chicago, IL, Lisa Dunn (husband Bob Wayne) of Ellendale, MN and Leah (Ruth) Scott (husband Bill) of Anchor Point, AK.

Dee taught physical education and health classes in Ellendale, MN for a few years after she got married. Then in 1972, she received a degree in nursing, and worked at various hospitals and at the Sweere chiropractic office in Owatonna.  Her desire to help people led her to go back to school to get a Masters degree in counseling & social work from Mankato State University in 1979.  Dee assisted many people in her work as a counselor at Fountain Lake treatment center in Albert Lea, and at the Mower county mental health center in Austin.  Dee’s passion and faith in God called her forward to obtain a Masters of Divinity degree from the United Theological Seminary in New Brighton, MN in 1985. She was later ordained at Judson Baptist Church in Minneapolis in 1986.  She worked for a time as an assistant minister at First Baptist in St. Paul and then continued her work in family practice at Lutheran Social Services in the Twin Cities & in private practice.   Dee also worked as a Chaplin at Hudson Foods in Albert Lea and volunteered her time to work with people in the hospice program in Owatonna.

Dee’s passion was to help people on their life journeys, physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Her quest to be close to God was fulfilled through her work to help people.  She was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling to many sacred sites around the world.

Dee died peacefully on Thursday, December 29, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Society in Albert Lea.  She was 81. She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends. 

She is survived by her children, her sister Rozella Merhish of Green Bay, WI, her brother Joe (Julie) Sabbadino of Greenville, SC, and two nephews, David and Daniel Sabbadino.  

Her parents preceded her in death.  A memorial service will be held later this spring.  Memorials can be sent to the Crossroads Community Hospice in Albert Lea, MN.

Edith Elizabeth Schultz passed away at St. John’s nursing home in Albert Lea January 9, 2012 due to terminal colon cancer.

A private funeral service for the immediate family will be held at the Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells, Minnesota.  Pastor Ed Komoszewski from Sojourners Church will be officiating. 

Edith was born January 14, 1931 on a farm near Lonsdale, Minnesota to parents John and Luddy Marek.  Edith graduated from Mankato Loyola High School and then went to post-secondary school in Mankato.

Edith married Arnold Schultz October 2, 1951 and enjoyed raising ten children on the farm located between Wells and Freeborn Minnesota.  Edith enjoyed farming and dancing with Arnie.  She also enjoyed playing cards with friends and family.  

Edith and Arnold were chosen by the owners of the Monterey Ballroom for representation at various ballrooms for Polka Fests.  Edith and Arnold were also asked to choose two other dancing couples to represent the Monterey Ballroom.  They chose two excellent dancing couples; Chuck and Jenny Kruse of Pemberton, Minnesota and Harold and Luanne Drummer of St. Clair, Minnesota.  

Edith is survived by her immediate family Arnold J. Schultz (husband) Wells, MN; Leonard and Kristen Schultz, Hartland, MN; Allan Schultz, New Richland, MN; Jan Schultz, Dayton, Ohio; Cheryl Schultz and Jack Brackett, Longmont, Colorado; Mary and Greg Dama, Glade Springs, Virginia; John and Kris Schultz, Alden, MN; Steve and Connie Schultz, Wells, MN; and David and Lisa Schultz, Albert Lea MN.  Edith is also survived by Charles and Dea (sister) Tuma, Harold and Ruth (sister) Johnson, Art and Alice (sister) Hutchens, Johnette Marek (sister), and Wilfred (brother) and Alvinia Marek. 

Edith also has ten grandchildren.  Thomas and Elizabeth Schultz, parents Leonard and Kris Schultz; Ashley and Chris Moore, and Michael Schultz-Navara and (friend) Kristen Dormish parents Jan Schultz and Steve Narva; Kristy Brackett (step-grandchild) parents Cheryl Schultz and Jack Brackett; Melissa Sather (step-grandchild) parents John and Kris Schultz; Derrick, Dustin, and Kendra Schultz parents Steve and Connie Schultz; and Corbin, Cameron, and Turena Schultz parents David and Lisa Schultz.

Edith is preceded by parents John and Luddy Marek, and sons Dale and Jerry Schultz.

Remembering the life of Marlene Anna Hagen…

The funeral service for Marlene Anna Hagen, of New Richland, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 31, 2011, at LeSueur River Lutheran Church in rural New Richland. The Reverend Paul Meierding will officiate.  Interment will be in LeSueur River Lutheran Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 4-7 on Friday at Friedrich Funeral Home, New Richland, and one hour before the service at the church.

Marlene died at her home on Tuesday, December 27, 2011.  She was 79.

She was born on March 30, 1932, in Owatonna, MN, the daughter of Herbert and Elsie (Hargefeld) Semmann.  She graduated from Owatonna High School and then worked at Federated Insurance. Marlene married Harold “Hap” Hagen on June 26, 1954, in Owatonna, and they enjoyed spending 57 years together. They made their home northeast of New Richland where they farmed and raised their family. Marlene and Harold moved into New Richland in 2004. Marlene was an active member of LeSueur River Lutheran Church where she had served as Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, on Church Council, was active in WELCA, where she served as treasurer for a many years, and enjoyed circle and the quilting group. Marlene was a very avid reader and also a member of the Legion Auxiliary. Her life centered on faith and family.

She will be greatly missed by her husband Harold “Hap” Hagen of New Richland; Children: Gary Hagen and his partner Dwight Ettel of St. Louis Park, MN, Dean Hagen of Rochester, MN, and JoAnn and her husband Edward Maloney of New Richland; grandchildren: William Maloney of Minneapolis, MN and Anita and Maggie Maloney of New Richland; her sister Nell and her husband Robert McCoy of Indianapolis, IN; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Christopher and Janet Hagen of New Richland and 9 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Julie, sister-in-law Marion and her husband Gordon Larson and brother-in-law Odean Hagen.
