The New Wine group from Cloquet, MN will present “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” during the Sunday worship service at LeSueur River Lutheran Church of rural New Richland on Sunday, June 11, at 9 a.m. No tickets are needed but a free will offering will be collected.

New Wine is a Christian youth musical/drama ministry of Zion Lutheran Church in Cloquet, Minnesota. The group promotes Christian fellowship, friendships and understanding among the students, who come from varied denominational backgrounds and traditions.

“Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” is a musical with music and lyrics written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice. The story is based on the "coat of many colors" story of Joseph from the Bible's Book of Genesis.

The Saturday, June 3 musical program, which was going to feature Matt Arthur at Beaver Lake, was canceled due to rain. It is hoped to reschedule Arthur later this summer.

The program for June 10 will feature Karey Langer in the Ellendale City Park at 7 p.m. The night will also include an ice cream social.

People are encouraged to pack their lawn chairs and help spread the word to put Saturday night musical entertainment on their calendars for the months of June, July and August.

The residents of Geneva are reminded of the citywide cleanup that will take place from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, June 3.

The City of Geneva is providing a dumpster, by the city garage and county recycling bins, that residents can use for their spring cleaning projects, as they eradicate their garages, basements, sheds, and closets, etc. of items they no longer use or want.

Some things are prohibited and will not be allowed in the dumpster: large appliances, such as stoves, fridges, freezers, washers and dryers, small countertop appliances, including blenders, toasters etc., and electronic devices, such as televisions and computers, as well as tires, wet paint, oil, household hazard waste, and yard waste.

Two dates have been set for NRHEG spring sports awards.

The first is Thursday, June 1 at 6:30 p.m. for baseball, softball and golf.

The second is Thursday, June 8 at 6:30 p.m. for track and field.

The Senior Athlete of the Year Award winners will be announced both nights. Ceremonies will be held in the high school gym in New Richland.

The current group is a bit smaller than in recent years, but that won’t lessen the enthusiasm as the NRHEG High School graduating class of 2017 takes the stage at the high school for commencement Sunday, June 4 at 2 p.m. This year’s graduates number 52, down from 63 last year.

The Valedictorian for the class of 2017 is Jennifer McKay, daughter of Michelle Muff of rural New Richland. She was involved in numerous activities and sports at NRHEG, including three years on the Student Council. She plans to attend the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, majoring in pre-medicine or pre-physical therapy.

Maci Surat, daughter of Rob and Lisa Surat of New Richland, is the 2017 Salutatorian. She too was involved in Student Council. Her college plans include attending Gustavus Adolphus in St. Peter to major in psychological science and a double minor in neuroscience and Spanish.
