Schuller, 4x800 team lead tracksters in opener

The NRHEG track and field teams opened the 2016 season indoors at Minnesota State-Mankato Saturday, April 2. Both squads were third among six schools.

Tri-City United won the girls’ meet with 151.5 points. The Panthers scored 90.

Firsts for NRHEG were by Hailey Schuller, 55-meter hurdles, and Sophia Fischer, shot put. Schuller was second in the 55 high hurdles and fourth in the long jump.

Other NRHEG placewinners: Maddie Wagner, second, 55 dash; Kelly Harden, Emily Prigge, Annie Prigge, Hailey Westrum, second, 4x800 relay; Emily Eder, third, shot put; Maddie Wagner, third, high jump and fifth, 200; Harden, third, 800; Schuller, Erin VanWilgen, Maddie Wagner, Marnie Wagner, third, 4x200; Marnie Wagner, fourth, high jump, 55 and 200; Olivia Christopherson, fourth, 55 intermediate hurdles; Annie Prigge, sixth, 1600.

“This was a good meet to get our feet wet,” said coach Duey Ferber. “Steady Betty Hailey Schuller came through like always. “Sophia Fischer placed first in the shot with a PR.”

Tri-City United’s boys won with 127 points, edging Minnesota Valley Lutheran’s 120. The Panthers had 77.

NRHEG’s lone first was by the 4x800 relay team of Tyler Schlaak, John Cole, Nate Krause and Josh Fleming.

Other places: Zeke Erickson, second, shot put; Brady Agrimson, second, high jump and sixth, 55 high hurdles; Brendon McMann, third, pole vault; Fleming, third, 400 and fourth, long jump; Schlaak, third, 800 and sixth, triple jump; Alex Buckmeier, fourth, shot put; Agro Gushwa, fourth, high jump and sixth, 400; Aaron Seath, fifth, 55 dash; Cole, Krause, Schlaak, Fleming, fourth, 4x400; Krause, sixth, long jump.

“This is a good meet for us to start the season,” said Ferber. “We had a bunch of good performances. Zeke and Alex had a good day in the shot put. Both had PRs. Brady had a PR in the high jump.”
