The NRHEG cross country teams competed in the Grizzlies Invitational at Janesville’s Prairie Ridge Golf Course Thursday, Oct. 1. The boys and girls both had a solid day.
The boys, running without senior Tyler Schlaak, recorded several personal bests while totaling 139 points for last among six teams. Faribault was first with 26.
Panther places: Josh Fleming, 11th, 18:22; Zach Mely, 25th, 19:05; Braden Routh, 51st, 21:19; Aaron Fleming 54th, 21:29; Jorey Fischer, 55th, 21:45; Aaron Seath, 68th, 24:09.
“Josh was impressive, having a personal record,” said NRHEG coach Mike Weber. “Zach followed suit with his PR. Zach seems to be taking chunks of time off at every meet. Braden had a solid race, running close to his best of the season. Aaron was right behind Braden and dropped a minute from his PR. Also earning a PR in the race, Jorey ran extremely well. Aaron had his best time of the season. With four of the six varsity boys having their fastest times ever, it was a rewarding meet all around.”
The NRHEG girls finished fifth out of six schools with 129 points. Faribault won with 22.
Jade Mely led the Panthers, placing 23rd in 23:23. Following were Katharine Lewer, 28th, 24:04; Mia Williams, 34th, 25:01; Maddie Bartlett, 40th, 25:56; Marissa Mortenson, 45th, 26:56; Destiny Medrano, 46th, 27:09.
“Jade ran a PR, having a very good run,” said Coach Weber. “Kat has been running well of late. Mia had a nice kick at the end to keep a couple runners behind, as did Maddie, who really has improved from her first varsity run. Marissa had a PR also. Destiny had her first varsity run, and I believe she surprised herself by running as well as she did. A couple of our young girls really stepped up to help us on varsity. As with the boys, four of the six varsity runners had their best times ever. The team ran extremely well.”
