Although, Mother Nature was relentless on Tuesday, June 14th, it didn't dampen any spirits of those attending the 5th Annual "Taste of the Farm" at Greg and Sue Harguth's family farm, three miles south of Waseca on Highway 13.

The event brought local agricultural organizations, businesses and youth groups together to provide families and individuals the opportunity to experience farm life from 6 to 8 p.m.

Even with the torrential downpour of rain, guests were encouraged to taste the goodness of the land. Each person was provided a delightfully delicious meal provided free of charge that included their personal preference of pulled pork sandwiches, or beef burgers, individual bags of potato chips and a cookie.

Despite the fact of being limited to roam the farm, event goers were enjoying the camaraderie of each other. They were offered free samplings of popcorn, glad corn, soy nuts, cheese sticks, root beer, milk, ice cream and even root beer floats for a few early birds.

While the DJ, "Simo," was unable to play, the sounds of laughter and conversation harmonized an enriching tune into attendees’ ears as area businesses and organizations offered informational literature about their products and/or services, therefore enlightening Taste of the Farm visitors knowledge.

Guests were shuttled to their vehicles to participate in the event and returned by golf carts furnished by Scott Routh and the Corn Palace Ag.

In spite of Mother Nature deeming herself uncooperative, visitors truly did get a taste of the farm first-hand, thereby making the annual event a grand success.

The KOWZ live broadcast was sponsored by Guardian Energy and Norton Construction. The sponsor for DJ "Simo" was Crystal Valley Coop. The ice cream wagon and paper products were provided by Ag Star Financial Services. Waseca FFA and 4-H youth assisted with parking and serving, First National Bank provided the bouncing gym, while Roundbank junior board members were standing by to host children's games.

The pork was supplied by the Waseca County Pork Producers. Beef was provided by the Minnesota Beef Council. Ag Power Enterprises furnished the cookies and popcorn. The Waseca County Corn Producers and Waseca County Soybean Producers supplied the glad corn and soy nuts. The Waseca County Dairy Farmers provided the cheese sticks. AMPI of Rochester supplied the milk, while Kwik Trip furnished the ice cream.

Other event sponsors were U of M SROC, Central Valley Coop, Kritzer Oil, Farm Bureau, Hy-Vee, The Shop, United Prairie Bank, Herold Rolloffs, Matawan Grain and Feed, Charlie's OK Hardware, Roundbank, Waseca Medical Center, Eagle Concrete, Dietz Construction, Building and Equipment Outlet, Condon Farm Service, Wells Fargo, Bonguard’s Creamery, Janesville Tire Service, Northland Farm Systems, Culligan, Summers Ridge Vet Clinic, Waseca Vet Clinic, Minnesota Farmers Union, Farmamerica and the Roundbank Agency.
