Some folks expected a lop-sided result as the NRHEG High School football team hosted winless Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop.

They got it.

The Panthers, fresh off a 13-7 loss to unbeaten WEM, scored early and often and cruised to an easy 41-6 triumph at New Richland Friday, Sept. 11.

“We came out of the gate strong,” said NRHEG coach Dan Stork, whose team improved to 3-1.

The Panthers needed only 12 plays to build a 21-0 first-quarter advantage, getting two touchdown runs by junior Jason Jongbloedt and one from sophomore Perry Peterson. Palmer Peterson threw a five-yard touchdown pass to John Cole to make it 28-0 at halftime.

The onslaught continued in the second half, with Palmer Peterson connecting with Cole for a 32-yard touchdown. Lucas Bailey added a fourth-quarter score.

Palmer Peterson was on the money, completing seven of 10 pass attempts for an average of more than 24 yards per pass.

Cole caught four passes for 111 yards, Chad Agrimson two for 51.

“John did a nice job running his routes and going up and getting the ball tonight,” said Stork.

Jongbloedt finished with 146 yards rushing on 14 carries. Perry Peterson gained 96 on 11 attempts.

“Jason and Perry ran all over the field tonight and once again our line played outstanding,” said Stork. “They are truly making us go right now.”

Zeke Erickson again anchored the defense with 5.5 tackles. Jack Schultz had five stops.

An area the Panthers need to improve for the second week in a row? Penalties and turnovers. They had nine penalties for 95 yards and one lost fumble.

“We committed far too many penalties for the second week in a row and put the ball on the ground a number of times, which is a huge concern,” said Stork. “We were able to overcome tonight, but we need to clean those two areas up in a hurry.

The Panthers travel to Arlington to face Sibley East Friday, Sept. 18.
