Classes, graduation, awards ceremonies and athletics are all history for the 2010-11 school year for all but one NRHEG student: Carlie Wagner.

The ninth-grader extended her track and field season Saturday, placing second in the high jump in the Section 2A meet at Mankato. It earned her a trip to state Friday and Saturday at Hamline University in St. Paul.

“There’s very tough competition in our section,” said NRHEG coach  Duey Ferber. “For Carlie to make it to state in the high jump as a freshman is a great achievement.”

Wagner cleared 5 feet, 3 inches, which not only earned her a silver medal, but would have automatically qualified her for the state meet based on standards.

It was one of four events in which Wagner competed. She finished fourth in the 200-meter dash in 27.03 seconds and sixth in the 100 in 13.16.

Raelin Schue, Danielle Krueger, Alearah Neumann and Wagner combined for sixth in the 4x200 relay with a time of 1:50.44.

Also competing for the Panthers at section but not placing were Krueger, 400; Anna Schlaak, 100 hurdles; Mikayla Lindell, shot put; Neumann, triple jump; and Kaylee Maxon, discus.

The NRHEG boys had eight entrants in the section meet. They placed in two events.

T.J. Schiltz, a freshman, took fifth in the 1600 in 4:47.24.

“T.J. was very impressive today with a fifth-place finish,” said Coach Ferber.

The 4x100 relay team of Ross Chester, Geoff Ramaker, Brian Billing and Hunter Eustice finished sixth in 47.18.

“The boys didn’t perform real well today as a team,” said Coach Ferber. “We faced very tough competition.”

Also competing but not placing: Tony Wacholz, discus; Kyle Bayherkohler, 400; Chester, long jump; Evan Ferber, triple jump; Schiltz, 3200; and Ramaker 200.
