Clay target team begins season

With the fall comes cooler weather, crop harvests, hunting season, and traditional fall sports.

However, not so new to the game, yet still a growing sport, High School Clay Target shooting is securing its place in the sounds of fall.

In its fourth year, the Fall League of the MN State Clay Target League continues to grow much like the larger Spring League. This year over 2,000 athletes across the state will participate in this six-week season.

Unlike the spring event, which last year involved over 6,000 athletes, the fall season is shorter in length and does not have a state competition. But that does not deter the kids from coming out.

The NRHEG team, which has been involved in all four seasons of fall shooting, will field 21 students in 2014. Most of them are local kids, but four of hail from the Waseca School District and one more travels from Albert Lea.  The team also has some new faces with seven first-time members.

The team completed its reserve week scores this past week and stared five weeks of competition on Sept. 24.

The team is once again being hosted by the Owatonna Gun Club. The team also picked up a new sponsor in Randy Cirksena, State Farm agent in Albert Lea.

The team is part of Conference 6 with teams from International Falls, Robbinsdale-Armstrong, Norman County, Anoka, and Spring Lake Park.
