As of Tuesday, the New Richland Jazz American Legion baseball team remains alive in the West Sub-District Tournament.

The Jazz won a play-in game Sunday at home against Medford. They were shut out 10-0 at Rochester Monday night and were scheduled to play at Dodge Center Wednesday.

New Richland will be the site of sub-district games on Friday at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. and Saturday at 3, 5 and 7 p.m. at Legion Field.

Jazz 7, Medford 5

The Jazz were led offensively by David Lassahn going 3-3 with a triple, two runs scored and reaching base all four times. Dillon Parpart went 1-2 with a single, two runs scored and was walked twice. Nic Mangskau started on the mound, going 6 strong innings giving up three runs on 4 hits while striking out 10. Parpart closed out the game giving up two runs on one hit and striking out one.

"Nic pitched very well for us tonight striking out 10 batters,” said player-coach Matt Dahle. “Nic has a way of keeping hitters off balance and never letting them get comfortable in the batter's box. David had another great night at the plate. All together, we did what we needed to do to keep alive in the playoffs."

Rochester Lourdes 10, Jazz 0

The Jazz's first-round matchup with the number one-seeded Lourdes team did not turn out as New Richland had planned.

David Lassahn had a fourth inning-single that turned out to be NR’s only baserunner of the game. Dempsey Tucker started the game for the Jazz, pitching 4 innings giving up 7 earned runs on 7 hits while walking 6. Parpart pitched the final inning giving up 3 runs on 1 hit while walking 3.

"It was a rather uninspired performance by our guys, and the scorebook showed that at the end of the game,” said Dahle. “Rochester has a very good team and we didn't quite have enough to compete with them. Dempsey showed a lot of promise in this start despite what his stat line showed. He had some very good off-speed stuff and used it often."
