NRHEG girls 2nd at Waseca Invitational

The NRHEG girls’ track and field team opened its outdoor season last Thursday at the Waseca Invitational.

The Panthers gave it a good run for first place but came up just short, with 135 points to the Bluejays’ 148. WEM had 100, LCWM 60, New Ulm 46 and JWP 34.

The Panthers captured five first places, two by defending state high jump champion Carlie Wagner, who cleared 5-4 to win her signature event and was first in the 200 in 27.85 seconds. The junior was second in the 100 in 13.14.

Kayla Lindell was also a double winner, sweeping the throwing events, tossing the discus 104-8 and heaving the shot 34-5.

Hailey Schuller, Maddie Wagner, Marnie Wagner and Gretchen Ramaker combined to win the 4x200 relay with a time of 1:57.4

Schuller, a freshman, added a pair of second places, clocking 17.17 in the 100 high hurdles and 55.42 in the 300 intermediates. She was third in the long jump at 14-2.

Emily Prigge, Kelly Harden, Sandra Quezada and Katie Crabtree finished second in the 4x800 in 11:29.

Other NRHEG places: Ramaker, third, 100, 13.99 and third, 200, 29.71; Harden, third, 300 hurdles, 58.01; Katharine Lewer, third, 3200, 13:42 and fifth, 1600, 6:17; Maddie Wagner, fourth, high jump, 4-4 and fifth, 100, 14.24; Maddie Wagner, Marnie Wagner, Taylar Tieskotter, Abby Wacholz, fourth, 4x100, 57.94; Emily Eder, fifth, discus, 67-3 and fifth, shot put, 25-4; Emily Prigge, Crabtree, Maurya Johnson, Harden, fifth, 4x400, 5:17.33; Crabtree, sixth, 300 hurdles, 1:01.29.

“The kids ran well tonight. I’m very proud of them,” said NRHEG head coach Duey Ferber. “It was a very good first outdoor meet for us.”

The Panthers were scheduled to host a meet Tuesday, April 9. They run at United South Central Tuesday, April 16.
