Track teams face tough foes at Wells

The NRHEG track and field teams faced some tough competition in a four-team meet hosted by United South Central/Alden-Conger at Wells on Thursday, April 21.

Both the boys and girls finished fourth.

Blue Earth Area won the girls’ meet with 190 points. USC/AC had 140, Waseca 119 and NRHEG 93.

“We really had a tough time against three very good teams,” said NRHEG coach Duey Ferber.

Carlie Wagner continued to score big for the Panthers, winning the 400 meters in 61.65 seconds and the high jump at 5-4. She was second in the 100 and third in the long jump.

Jill Kalis had the Panthers’ other first, winning the discus with a toss of 113-11. Kaylee Mason was second in the discus at 103-6 and sixth in the shot put.

Other NRHEG places: Anna Schlaak, third, 100 hurdles and fourth, high jump; Mikayla Lindell, third, shot put and sixth, discus; 4x100 relay, third (Abby Crabtree, Samantha Hogstad, Paige Bolduan, Raelin Schue); Amber Schmit, fourth, discus; 4x400, fourth (Emily Habeck, Jamie Ulrich, Taylor Tieskotter, Abby Wacholz); 4x200, fourth (Hailey Schuller, Sam Hogstad, Tieskotter, Schue); Crabtree, fifth, 3200 and sixth, 1600.

“The throwers had another big night,” said Ferber. “They are a huge part of our scoring.”

USC/AC won the boys’ meet with 190 points, followed by BEA with 134, Waseca 132 and NRHEG 72.

Evan Ferber was the Panthers’ lone first-place finisher, winning the triple jump at 37-1. He was third in the 300 hurdles.

The Panthers picked up three seconds, by T.J. Schiltz in the 3200, Tony Wacholz in the discus and the 4x200 relay team of Ross Chester, Brian Billing, Geoff Ramaker and Matt Webster.

Others: 4x100, third (Webster, Ramaker, Billing, Ferber); 4x800, third (Kyle Bayerkohler, Karter Sletten, Webster, Schiltz); Wacholz, third, shot put; Bayerkohler, fourth, 400 and fifth, 800; Ryan Schlaak, fifth, pole vault; Chester, fifth, long jump; Ramaker, sixth, 200; Sletten, sixth, 1600; Tyler Crabtree, sixth, shot put and sixth, discus.

“Evan Ferber had a nice night,” said Coach Ferber. “T.J. Schiltz had another good 3200 race. His times are coming down. Tony Wacholz had another good night in the throws.”

The Panthers were scheduled to run Tuesday, April 26 at Maple River. They compete Friday, April 29 at Blue Earth and Tuesday, May 3 at Blooming Prairie.
