The NRHEG girls’ track and field team hosted its own Panther Relays last Tuesday and came out on top of an eight-team field. The Panthers won with 116 points, followed by WEM with 89, JWP 65, Blooming Prairie 58, St. Clair 51, Maple River 47, Minnesota Academy of the Deaf 30 and Bethlehem Academy 15.

The meet used non-traditional scoring, with three athletes from each team combining for each individual event. Relay races were ran as usual.

“It was a nice win for our Panthers tonight,” said NRHEG coach Duey Ferber. “Many of our younger runners had fantastic performances. Relay meets are a fun way to really build team unity.”

The Panthers took five first places: discus (Jill Kalis, Kaylee Maxon, Mikayla Lindell); sprint medley relay (Abby Wacholz, Raelin Schue, Carlie Wagner, Danielle Krueger); 4x100 (Abby Crabtree, Samantha Hogstad, Paige Bolduan, Schue); short sprint medley (Crabtree, Bolduan, Krueger, Wagner); high jump (Wagner, Bolduan, Katie Cole).

“Kalis had a monster throw of 122-10 in the discus,” said Ferber.

Taking second for NRHEG: 110 hurdles relay (Jamie Ulrich, Ashley Garretson, Hailey Schuller); 4x200 (Schuller, Krueger, Tayler Tieskotter, Schue); long jump (Wagner, Cole, Garretson); shot put (Amber Schmit, Maxon, Lindell); triple jump (Tieskotter, Wacholz, Ulrich); distance medley (Tieskotter, Emily Habeck, Katherine Lewer, Crabtree).

Third places: 4x800 (Habeck, Lewer, Destinee Meyer, Shantaya Olson); 3x1600 (Crystal Olson, Shantaya Olson, Meyer); 300 hurdles (Habeck, Garretson, Cole).

The NRHEG boys nearly completed a sweep for the Panthers but lost in the last event. Maple River won with 92 points. NRHEG had 86, JWP 74, WEM 55, BA 47, Blooming Prairie 40, St. Clair 39 and MSAD 35.

“I’m very proud of our boys,” said Ferber. “They left everything they had on the track.”

NRHEG claimed four firsts: 4x200 (Evan Ferber, Brian Billing, Geoff Ramaker, Hunter Eustice); shot put (Tony Wacholz, Nate Lutgens, Tyler Crabtree); triple jump (Ferber, Billing, T.J. Schiltz); discus (Wacholz, Lutgens, Crabtree).

Seconds: 4x100 (Matt Webster, Ramaker, Ferber, Eustice); pole vault (Tyler Holz, Ryan Schlaak, Cordell Peterson); 300 hurdles (Ferber, Schiltz, Billing).

Thirds: sprint medley (Billing, Ramaker, Webster, Kyle Bayerkohler); distance medley (Bayerkohler, Karter Sletten, Jade Waltz, Schiltz).

The Panthers had one fourth place, by John Cole, Tyler Schlaak and Sletten in the 3x1600.

The Panthers compete at Maple River Tuesday, April 26 and at Blue Earth Friday, April 29.
