Summer is in full swing, which means America’s favorite pastime is too. Thanks to one local coach/farmer and America’s Farmers Grow CommunitiesSM, the Quad Cities Baseball Association will now be able to purchase new equipment.
Grow Communities, sponsored by the Monsanto Fund, gives farmers the opportunity to win $2,500 for their favorite local nonprofit organizations. Jeff Reese, of New Richland was the winning farmer in Waseca County. He recognized the program’s many needs and directed the donation to Quad Cities Baseball Association.
“Currently, I am a high school varsity baseball coach,” Reese said. “My passions are farming and baseball.”
In a ceremony held on July 20 at New Richland Legion Field, Reese got the chance to present the players with the $2,500 donation.
Through America’s Farmers Grow Communities:
• Farmers in 1,245 eligible counties have the chance to win $2,500 for their favorite community nonprofit organizations.
• The Monsanto Fund has invested more than $3.1 million to rural communities this year alone.
• 70 counties in Minnesota are eligible. The Monsanto Fund will invest $175,000 in those communities.
• A list of all winners and more information can be found at www.growcommunities.com.
“We plan on using the donation to purchase baseball equipment for the kids program,” said Mark Querna, Quad Cities Baseball Association secretary.
Grow Communities is part of a broad commitment by the Monsanto Fund to invest in farm communities such as Waseca County. It aims to highlight the important contributions farmers such as Reese make every day to our society.
