A day earlier the Panthers won 5-4 at Byron.
Lundberg was the hero, hitting a grand slam home run in the fourth inning while easily clearing the center field fence. She also drove in the run in the eighth inning and made two spectacular plays at home, diving to tag out a baserunner and making a tough catch. For the game, she was 3-for-4 with five RBIs and two stolen bases.
Deml was also strong defensively, making a key catch in the eighth to keep Byron from scoring.
Schultz was reached for four earned runs on four hits. She fanned 11 and walked five.
Tori Raimann was 2-for-4. Schlaak, Stork, Mandy Thiele, Schultz and Tara Simon had one hit apiece.
The Panthers traveled to Albert Lea for a rare Wednesday game and won 9-6. Deml had another stellar day, going 3-for-4.
“She had four solid hits and made two catches in center field,” said Coach Schultz. “With one out in the bottom of the seventh, she made a tough catch and threw it to second for a double play to end the game.”
Schultz, Schlaak and Alyssa Esplan went 2-for-4. Raimann, Stork, Stormi Hagen and Simon contributed one hit apiece.
On the mound, Schultz gave up two earned runs on seven hits, striking out seven and walking six.
“The team hit well, with 13 hits total,” said Coach Schultz. “Everyone had at least one hit in the game.”
Hits were tough to come by at Blooming Prairie, where the Blossoms’ Shelbi Swenson held the Panthers to two, both by Schultz.
Schultz allowed 10 earned runs on five hits. She walked 16 and struck out six.
“Unfortunately there weren’t any highlights from our game for us,” said Coach Schultz. “Jade had an unusual rough game pitching. When you have more errors than hits, chances aren’t good that you’re going to win. We played absolutely terrible. Give credit to Blooming Prairie. They are a great team.”
