Tracksters host invite, compete at Waseca

The NRHEG track and field teams were in action twice this past week, hosting their Panther Invitational Tuesday, April 10 and traveling to the Waseca Invitational Thursday, April 12.

Albert Lea won the girls’ division of the home invite with 160 points. NRHEG was second with 116, followed by Medford with 86, WEM 75, Maple River 56 and LCWM/N 53.

Panther sophomore Carlie Wagner continued to shine, winning the 100, 400 and high jump while taking second in the 200. Other NRHEG places: Hailey Schuller, second, long jump, third, 300 hurdles and fourth, 100 hurdles; Danielle Krueger, second, 400, third, 200 and fourth, 100; Emily Eder, third, shot put; Katharine Lewer, third, 3200 and fourth, 1600; 4x200, third (Abby Crabtree, Gretchen Ramaker, Marnie Wagner, Raelin Schue); 4x100, fourth (Crabtree, Schuller, Ramaker, Schue); Paige Bolduan, fourth, high jump; 4x400, fourth (Ramaker, Aubrey Schlinger, Shanna Stencel, Shantaya Olson); 4x800, fifth (Crystal Olson, Kristy Possin, Stencel, Shantaya Olson; Crabtree, fifth, pole vault; Emmy Hobbs, fifth, pole vault; Shantaya Olson, sixth, 1600.

“The girls ran well tonight,” said NRHEG coach Duey Ferber. “Carlie was about 1/100th of a second from getting four first places. Danielle and Carlie make a nice 1-2 punch in the sprints. Hailey Schuller had a nice meet in hurdles and long jump.”

The girls were third at Waseca with 96 points. Waseca won with 167. WEM was second with 119.

Wagner won three events, the high jump, 200 and 400. Schuller took second in the 100 hurdles. Krueger was third in the 200 and 400.

Boys’ team scores in the Panther Invitational: Maple River 144, Albert Lea 118, Medford 109.75, NRHEG 76.25, JWP 71.25, WEM 40.25.

NRHEG places: T.J. Schiltz, first, 1600 and 3200 and fifth, triple jump; Geoff Ramaker, first, long jump; Ross Chester, first, long jump; 4x100, second (Chester, Ramaker, Raece Johnson, Jade Waltz); Tyler Holz, third, pole vault; 4x200, third (Chester, Ramaker, Johnson, Karter Sletten); 4x800, fifth (Hans Frank, Tyler Schlaak, Sletten, Waltz); Schlaak, sixth, 1600; Cordell Peterson, sixth, pole vault.

“The boys ran well tonight,” said Ferber. “T.J. had another nice meet scoring 26 points. Ramaker looked good in the 100 and his relays. Chester got his first first place of his varsity career.”

The boys were fifth at Waseca with 34 points. Waseca won with 221.

Panther places: Schiltz, second, 1600 and 3200; Keith Maxon, fourth, discus; 4x200, fourth (Chester, Ramaker, Sletten, Johnson); 4x100, fourth (Chester, Ramaker, Johnson, Waltz); 4x800, fifth (Frank, Schlaak, Sletten, Waltz).

“Our boys looked a little sluggish tonight,” said Ferber. “They’re not used to two meets in three days.”

The next action for the Panthers is Tuesday, April 17 at USC/AC.
