The weather conditions on Friday kept many people home, but a great number of faithful supporters braved the conditions to attend the second weekend of the 2022 Geneva Cancer Auction, Friday, January, 14 at the Geneva Bar and Grill.
A special board displaying names of those who donated and the cause for their donations was on display again this year. Some of those listed on the board included: a $5,000 donation from Maple Island Park Association; $4,500 from the Geneva Cancer Motorcycle Run; $2,400 raised from the Cancer Golf Outing in August; as well as $1,000 from Bleachers Bar and Grill in Albert Lea. A special thank you was extended to all those who donated, including a great number of those not listed here.
Several boards displayed the number of Geneva Cancer Auction Raffle tickets purchased.
There were also several large green display boards showing how the Geneva Cancer Auction has been helping financially in the Fight Against Cancer for 38 years now. The first Geneva Cancer Auction was held in 1985 and raised $5,500.

The tornado that touched down in Hartland on Dec. 15, 2021 was a setback for L&D Ag. Their welding facility was so badly damaged that it must be torn down.
“Oddly enough, the path of destruction was pretty narrow – 100 to 150 feet - but it went right through the back alley,” said Travis Routh, general manager of L&D Ag. According to Routh, the tornado touched down behind the bar, and then moved on to L&D Ag, the post office, Olson Excavating, and Arcadian Bank.
“It tore the bricks right off the back of the welding shop,” said Routh, “and it caved in both overhead doors.” Routh speculates that the vacuum created sucked in the front door as well as the back. The tornado also ripped the tin off the roof, which is now sagging.

After a year away due to Covid, southern Minnesotans gathered together to help fight cancer during the first weekend of the annual Geneva Cancer Auction Jan. 7 and 8.
Due to the pandemic, it was decided not to hold the Geneva Cancer Auction in 2021, but instead a fundraiser was held, so the annual raffle winners could be announced.
A cancer fundraising mum sale was conducted at the Geneva Bar & Grill in the fall of 2021, which raised $2,824. In July and again in November two purse bingo events were held and those events raised about $9,000.
On Friday night, Whitey Hagen welcomed everyone to the Geneva Bar & Grill for the 37th Geneva Cancer Auction and was applauded, as people were pleased to gather again to fight cancer.
