The NRHEG High School volleyball team advanced in sub-section play Monday, defeating visiting MLGHECT 3-1 in New Richland. The Panthers won 25-12, 25-19, 25-16, improving their season record to 11-14.
The Panthers led from start to finish in game one. NRHEG went on a run with Sydney Schlinger serving to pull ahead 10-4, and then again with Olivia Christopherson having three aces and giving NRHEG a 19-1 advantage.
In game two, the Panthers started slow and fell behind 8-6. They were able to catch up and tie it at 11 and, at 19, going on a four-point run.
In game three the girls played with confidence, according to coach Onika Peterson, and capped off the night with a great win.
"I am proud of the girls and we are looking for our next playoff win on Thursday as we travel to Mountain Lake," said Coach Peterson.
Individually on Monday: Olivia Christopherson 14 kills, 3 dig, 1 assist, 3 aces; Alexis Anderson 3 kills, 6 digs, 1 ace block; Sophie Stork 3 kills, 3 digs; Caitlin Goette 3 kills, 1 ace block; Darian Pearson 3 kills, 3 digs, 2 aces; Jayna Finseth 2 kills, 3 assists, 2 digs, 1 ace block; Kylie Arndt 1 kill; Laura Worrell 14 assists, 6 digs, 2 aces Hannah Budach 12 assists, 3 digs, 1 ace; Sydney Schlinger 5 digs, 1 ace.
The Panthers are the No. 5 seed in the south sub-section of Section 2A. The winner of Thursday's match at No. 4 seed Mountain Lake-Comfrey (16-8-1) plays Oct. 30 at 6 p.m. at St. Peter High School. The sub-section championship is Nov. 1 at 7:30 p.m. at Mankato East. The section title match is Nov. 3 at 6 p.m. at Mankato East.
