The NRHEG softball team had a lot of big hits during the 2016 season, but it came to an end on a day when hits were hard to find.
The Panthers scored once in the top of the first inning, but that was it in a 3-1 Section 2AA Tournament loss to Belle Plaine at Caswell Park in Mankato Monday, May 30.
“We couldn’t quite muster enough hits,” said coach Wendy Schultz, whose squad totaled four hits, one each by Gabby Muri, Paige Knudson, Rachel Collins and Torrie Stencel.
Muri had the RBI. Knudson stole two bases.
Panther pitcher Anna Lundberg had a fine outing, allowing two earned runs on seven hits, with five strikeouts and one walk.
The Panthers finished 16-7 overall, 4-2 in the Gopher Conference.
“I was proud of the work ethic, dedication, and determination the girls showed throughout the entire season,” said Coach Schultz. “I was fortunate to be able to coach such a great group of girls.”
Two seniors graduated, Stencel and Lundberg.
