Christenson hits 50 of 50
In a week with few nice nights for shooting, Conference 3 of Class 7A saw teams reshuffle a bit and gain on the number two team from Faribault.
But this was of little concern to the NRHEG team as they posted their best round of the season and extended their lead to 4,286 points. This represents the first comfortable but not yet insurmountable lead of the season for any team.
The squad was led by not one but two Christensons. Brothers Tory and Collin recorded rounds of 49/50 and 50/50, respectively. Both find themselves in the top 100 shooters in the state along with teammate Kyle Bartz of Waseca. All three need to maintain their spots to qualify for the MSHSL State Individual tournament in June.
But, of course it takes a team effort to sit atop the conference in a sport where there are no bench players. The NRHEG squad had five shooters in the top ten scores for the week and nine in the top 20. Collin sits in the No. 2 spot in the conference for male shooters behind Max Bunning of Wayzata. Kyle is fourth and Tory is sixth. They are joined in the top 25 by Zach Eustice (Waseca), Tanner Alfson (Albert Lea), Alex Romer (Albert Lea), Tyler Raimann (NRHEG), Chancellor Olson (NRHEG), and Noah Lund (Waseca). Morgan Phillips (Albert Lea) remains in the top 25 for female shooters in the conference.
The team shoots every Wednesday at 4 p.m. at the Owatonna Gun Club south of Hope. Spectators are welcome.
