Steady Betty remains steady. Sophia Fischer continues to turn it up a notch every meet.
Senior Hailey “Steady Betty” Schuller won the 100 high hurdles and fellow senior Fischer set another PR for second in the shot put as the NRHEG girls’ track and field team finished fifth in the Maple River Invitational Tuesday, April 26.
“This was a very tough meet against some very tough teams,” said coach Duey Ferber. “Hailey continues to be our points leader. Sophia is on a tear in the shot put.”
Schuller won the high hurdles in 17.43 seconds, and she combined with Caitlin Goette, Marnie Wagner and Maddie Wagner for first in the 4x200 relay in 1:56.51.
Fischer tossed the shot 36-5.
Maddie Wagner was third in the high jump and fifth in the long jump, Marnie fourth in the 100, fourth in the 200 in 28.95 and fourth in the high jump.
Other NRHEG places: Schuler, fourth, 300 hurdles and sixth, long jump; Emily Prigge, fifth, 3200; 4x100, fifth, (Olivia Christopherson, Katie Cliff, Erin VanWilgen, Lilly Strom), Jade Mely, sixth, 3200; 4x800, sixth (Hailey Westrum, Jade Mely, Mikayla Vaale, Katie Crabtree).
Team scores: Madelia/Truman 115, LCWM/Nicollet 102, Blue Earth Area 87, MVL 72, NRHEG 58, USC/AC 47, Maple River 45, St. Clair 32.
The Panthers were third among five schools at a true team invitational hosted by USC/AC April 22. Blue Earth won with 235, LCWM/N had 209, NRHEG 178, Martin County West 176, USC/AC 143.
Firsts for NRHEG were by Schuller, 100 hurdles, 17.09, and Maddie Wagner, high jump, 4-10.
Schuller, Goette, Marnie and Maddie teamed for second in the 4x200 in 1:54.92.

“This was the first meet that we competed against Blue Earth, LCWM/N, and MCW,” said Ferber. “All are in our sub-section and all are very tough teams. Our times reflected that it was our third meet of the week.
