The NRHEG cross country teams competed in the Waseca Invitational Thursday, Oct. 8 at Lakeside Golf Club. The boys were eighth out of nine teams, the girls eighth of eight.
Boys’ places and times: Josh Fleming, 27th, 18:53; Tyler Schlaak, 32nd, 19:03; Zach Mely, 43rd, 20:00; Braden Routh, 51st, 21:13; Jorey Fischer, 52nd, 21:28; Aaron Fleming, 55th, 23:08; Aaron Seath, 58th, 24:54.
Waseca won with 43 points. The Panthers had 205, defeating Medford.
“Josh ran an excellent first half to the race,” said coach Mike Weber “During the second half, a few runners slipped by him to take him out of the awards, but his times have been improving from each race last year. Tyler’s times are coming down from where he was running last season, and he had his best time for this season. Jorey had his personal best tonight. It was a good race for the boys team-wise, as many performed well individually.”Girls’ results: Jade Mely, 32nd 23:24; Skylar Lembke, 38th, 23:54; Katharine Lewer, 43rd 24:26; Mia Williams, 44th, 24:28; Marissa Mortenson, 51st, 27:07.
Faribault was first with 70 points. The Panthers had 208.
“We again enjoyed a full squad,” said Coach Weber. “Jade nearly equaled her best time running a 5K course. Skylar was impressive in her first outing on varsity. Katharine continues to pace our runners. The girls seem to key on her in the race to determine their pace. Kat is the glue holding together the center of the team. Mia had her best time this year, as did Marissa.”
