The NRHEG girls’ track and field team appears to have peaked at the right time, turning in what coach Duey Ferber called a season-best performance in the Sub-Section 5A meet Thursday, May 21.

First place belonged to Waseca with 193 points, followed by WEM with 174, Maple River 121, NRHEG 118, USC/AC 116, St. Clair 57 and JWP 33.

The Panthers are sending five girls to the Section 2A meet at Mankato West High School Saturday, May 30.

“Our girls performed the best they have all season,” said NRHEG coach Duey Ferber. “We have a very tough sub-section.”

Maddie Wagner took gold in the high jump, winning the event at an even 5 feet. She combined with her twin sister Marnie, Hailey Schuller and Gretchen Ramaker for first in the 4x200 relay in 1:53.42.

Schuller, a junior, made it to section in two more events, taking second in the 100 high hurdles and third in the 300 intermediate hurdles.

Other section-qualifying performances: Ramaker, third, 100; Marnie Wagner, fourth, 100; Emily Eder, fourth, shot put and discus.

Other places: 4x800 relay, third (Kelly Harden, Sandra Quezada, Hailey Westrum, Maddie Bartlett); 4x100, fourth (Wagner, Ramaker, Erin VanWilgen, Wagner); Quezada, fifth, 3200; Harden, fifth, pole vault and seventh, 800; Ramaker, fifth, triple jump; Annie Prigge, sixth, 1600; 4x400 relay, sixth (Westrum, Mia Williams, Prigge, Grace Kofstad); Marnie Wagner, sixth, high jump; Sophia Fischer, sixth, shot put; Williams, seventh, 3200; VanWilgen, eighth, 200; Westrum, eighth, 1600; Jade Mely, eighth, 3200.
