The NRHEG High School clay target team took to the range once again last week as they continue to try and catch the conference-leading team from McGregor-Aitkin-Cromwell.
However, it was would be the MAC team that would continue to expand their lead over the second-place team from NRHEG. At the same time, the local boys did expand their own lead over the rest of the field and they now find themselves solidly in the runner up position after starting the season in fourth.
It was mostly the same story that kept the team where they are. The top shooters struggled a little bit but overall were still strong with four shooters in the top 10 scores for the week. The team was led by Sam Bartz (Waseca) who recorded his first perfect 25 of the season on his way to a 48/50 for the night. He was followed by last fall's top conference shooter, Frank Altrichter (NRHEG), with a 46/50. The bottoms shooters shot within their average but without the extra bump needed by this group the team just can't close any ground on MAC. With three of the five competition weeks now in the books, the team is being led by Kyle Bartz (Waseca), who is the top shooter in the conference with a 23.50 average. Kyle is currently the only member of the team in the top 100 in the state. He is joined in the top 25 conference shooters by Tyler Raimann (NRHEG) in 4th, Frank Altrichter (NRHEG) and Collin Christianson (NRHEG) in 6th, Alex Romer (Albert Lea) in 10th, and Sam Bartz (Waseca) in 20th. The team has two more weeks of competition in which to try and win the conference. The kids shoot every Wednesday at 4 p.m. at the Owatonna Gun Club. Visitors are welcome.
