Last week was another good one for the NRHEG High School baseball team.

The Panthers went 2-1 while improving their record to 5-2 on the season, 4-1 in the Gopher Conference.

NRHEG opened the week with a tough 4-3 loss at Medford Monday, but bounced back to beat Zumbrota-Mazeppa 13-3 Thursday at Legion Field and win 10-3 at Blooming Prairie Friday.

The Panthers fell as the winning run scored from third on a pickoff attempt at second base in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Trevor Tracy started on the mound and went the route for NRHEG, allowing three earned runs on two hits, with two strikeouts and no walks.

“He pitched well,” said coach Drew Paukert.

The Panthers tired in in the sixth on an RBI single by C.J. Schiltz, who scored the tying run one batter later on a wild pitch.

Tracy finished 2-for-4 with a stolen base. Trai Wicks added a hit, scored a run and stole a base.

The Panthers hosted Paukert’s alma mater and blew out the winless Cougars in a nonconference game.

The Panthers scored three runs in the bottom of the first and were never threatened, exploding for 10 runs on seven hits in the bottom of the third.

Matt Jensen was the hitting hero, going 3-for-3 with a three-run home run, three runs scored and two stolen bases. Tracy was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs, John Hubly 3-for-3 with two RBIs, three runs and three stolen bases, Spencer Tollefson 1-for-2 with a double and two RBIs.

Jensen was the winning pitcher, giving up two earned runs on six hits and three walks in four innings. Eli Lutgens pitched the fifth.

The weather again was not the finest but the Panthers played anyway, besting the Blossoms in a Gopher Conference contest.

Dempsey Tucker was in control on the mound despite walking seven, finishing with 10 strikeouts while allowing two earned runs on three hits.

Jet Wayne went 4-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs, Tollefson 2-for-4 with two runs, Grant Kyllo 2-for-4 with three RBIs and one run, Dakota Thiele 2-for-4 with one run and one stolen base, Tracy 2-for-4 with one RBI, one run and two stolen bases.

The Panthers took the lead in the top of the first as Thiele led off with a double and scored on a Tracy single, following by a Hubly RBI single.
