The NRHEG cross country teams competed in the United South Central Invitational at Freeborn’s Oak View Golf Course Tuesday, Oct. 7.
LaCrescent won the boys’ meet with 25 points, followed by USC with 65, Blooming Prairie 69 and NRHEG 93.
For the Panthers: Tyler Schlaak, ninth, 18:43; Zach Mely, 17th, 19:43; Josh Fleming, 19th, 20:00; Brenden McMann, 23rd, 20:30; Ben Lewer, 25th, 20:41; Aaron Seath, 33rd, 22:19.
“With some racing strategy Tyler managed a very good time, which was his best of the season,” said coach Mike Weber. “Zach also had his best race of the year. Josh started out a little fast and paid the price with a slower time than what is typical for him. But, sometimes you have to test your limits. Brenden had his second best of the season. Ben and Aaron had their best times; both ran very well. With most having their best times at the regular season’s end, the team can really be proud of their running this evening.”The girls continued to field a full squad, finishing third among three schools with 87 points. LaCrescent had 24, Blooming Prairie 61.
For NRHEG: Sandra Quezada, ninth, 18:26; Katharine Lewer, 17th, 19:38; Missy Malakowsky, 18th, 20:07; Marissa Mortenson, 19th, 20:30; Kristi Possin, 24th, 22:14.
“Sandra is having a very solid season,” said Weber. “Once again, Sandra lowered her best time for the year and came in first for us. Marissa had a great race and took 30 seconds off her best time of the season. Kristi tied her best time for the season. It is great to see low times as we head into the postseason with conference and sections ahead of us. Everyone on team has put in the effort and time in practice, so it is rewarding to see the payoff in the overall improvement.”
The Panthers hosted the Gopher Conference meet Tuesday. Section is Thursday, Oct. 23 at Blue Earth.
