Things get out of hand as NRHEG rolls

The NRHEG High School football team has experienced some frustration since week two of the 2014 season.

The Panthers unleashed some of it at Winthrop last Friday, blowing out the GFW Thunderbirds 60-14 to snap a four-game losing skid.

“Our guys played hard tonight,” said NRHEG head coach Dan Stork. “Our offensive and defensive lines controlled the game from start to finish.”

They paved the way for an impressive 439 rushing yards, including 100-yard rushing games by two backs.

“Alex Merritt, Jason Jongbloedt and Trey Hoppe all had big nights carrying the ball,” said Stork.

Quarterback Trevor Tracy was an efficient 3-for-6 for 43 yards, all three going to Spencer Tollefson, who scored two touchdowns. Tracy added a rushing touchdown, had no interceptions and the Panthers had no turnovers, outgaining GFW 482-184 for the night.

Perry Peterson ran for two fourth-quarter touchdowns for the Panthers, who led 10-0 after one quarter, 24-0 at halftime and 38-14 after three periods.

“Our record is not what we had hoped for,” said Stork. “But we continue to improve every day and hope to be playing our best football at the end of the season.”

The Panthers host Medford this Friday at 7 p.m. and end the regular season Wednesday, Oct. 15 at home against Blooming Prairie.
