It wasn’t exactly softball weather, but there’s a reason NRHEG girl athletes have a reputation for being tough.

They didn’t care.

The Panthers took care of business on a very chilly afternoon at Waterville May 15, blanking the Buccaneers 8-0.

Jade Schultz didn’t give the home team many scoring chances, allowing four hits while striking out 10 and walking one in the seven-inning shutout.

Kelli Harrington was the offensive standout, going 2-for-4 with two triples and two runs scored.

Hannah Lundberg went 3-for-3, scored three times and drove in a run while stealing a remarkable eight bases.

Anna Stork was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Adding one hit each were Schultz, Torrie Stencel, Alyssa Esplan, Grace Johnson and Kayley Camerer. Johns and Ryann Hagen each drove in a run. Esplan stole two bases.

“It was a good team win,” said coach Wendy Schultz. “Jade had another great outing on the mound, and Hannah was quick on the base paths.”

It was the Gopher Conference opener for the Panthers, who improved to 2-1 overall.
