The NRHEG clay target team is currently one of 33 schools participating in the Fall League for the Minnesota State High School Clay Target League.
Although the fall league is smaller than the spring league, which boasted over 100 teams for 2013, the fall league is also growing significantly as is reflected throughout this entire sport.
As in the spring, the conferences the schools compete in are not geographic but instead are based on team size. With 11 shooters, the NRHEG team is in Conference 1A.
"We are a young team," commented head coach Dan Sorum. "Out of our 11 members nine of them are freshman and younger."In their first week of competition the youth level of experience seemed to show through as the team only scored nine of a possible 24 points. But in their second week the team posted 15 of 24 points moving them past Bethlehem Academy of Faribault and narrowing the gap between them and Southwest Christian.
Individually, the team’s only female shooter, Haylie Mosher, currently ranks third in the conference for females and broke into the top 25 in the state for her season average. Fans may remember Haylie led the league in the spring of 2013 and was 10th in the state for female shooters.
The team has three more weeks of competition. They shoot each Tuesday at the New Richland Sportsman’s Club.
