The NRHEG boys’ track and field team made the most of its regular-season only home outing of 2013.

The Panthers captured three firsts and finished third in their rescheduled invitational in New Richland Friday, May 10.

Junior T.J. Schiltz had a hand in all three NRHEG firsts.

He won the 3200 meters in 10:12.3 and ran a leg on two first-place relays. The 4x800 included Tyler Schultz, Karter Sletten and John Cole, clocking 9:01. Kiel Sletten, Karter Sletten and Raece Johnson joined Schiltz in the 4x200, which won in 1:40.5. For good measure, Schiltz added a third place in the high jump, clearing 5-6.

The Panthers’ lone second was by the 4x100 relay team of Aaron Seath, Ethan Borwege, Kiel Sletten and Hunter Ryg. They clocked 50.0 seconds.

Other NRHEG places: Ryg, third, 300 hurdles, 50.5; Schlaak, third, 800, 2:15.2; Cordell Peterson, third, pole vault, 9-6; Keith Maxon, third, discus, 126-8; 4x400, third, (Johnson, Adam Anderson, Schlaak, Karter Sletten), 4:42.1; Hans Frank, fourth, high jump, 5-4; Johnson, fourth, 400, 55.7; Karter Sletten, fourth, 800, 2:15.7; Kevin Kalis, fourth, discus, 119-11; Nick Goette, sixth, shot put, 38-5.25; Anderson, sixth, 400, 61.1.

Blooming Prairie won the meet with 130 points. Following were St. Clair with 121, NRHEG 96, JWP 94 and LCWM/N 63.

“It was a nice meet for the boys tonight,” said coach Duey Ferber. “We had great weather and good competition for our only regular-season home meet.”

The Panthers traveled to Maple River Monday, May 6 for the True Team Section Meet. They finished 11th among 13 schools. Blue Earth Area won.

The highlights belonged to Schiltz and Schiltz alone, as he won the 1600 in 4:33.06 — breaking his own school record, again — and winning the 3200 with a time of 10:00.27.

“T.J. was the only Panther boy to finish in the top six in an event,” said Ferber. “That shows how tough our section really is. It was a perfect night to compete. Many kids had personal records.”
