Ferber wonders after Wagner wins again

Just think what will happen when it gets warm.

That’s what NRHEG track and field coach Duey Ferber was wondering after the Panthers’ second outdoor meet of the season last Tuesday, April 16.

He was wondering how high will Carlie Wager go? The junior defending state high jump champion won the event again, clearing 5-4, just 2 inches short of her state title leap.

“She had another nice night in the high jump,” said Ferber. “It will be fun to see what she can do in warm weather.”

As a team, the Panthers finished fourth out of five squads in the USC/AC Invitational at Wells. Blue Earth Area won with 96.33, followed by Martin County West with 92, USC/AC 83, NRHEG 49.33 and St. Clair 43.33.

Wagner was the lone winner for the Panthers, adding a fourth place in the 100 meters in 13.9 seconds.

Freshman Hailey Schuller had another strong outing, finishing second in the 100 high hurdles in 18.01 and second in the 300 intermediate hurdles in 54.86.

“Hailey scored some nice points in both of the hurdle races,” said Ferber.

The Panthers had one other second place, by Abby Crabtree, who cleared 6-6 in the pole vault.

Other NRHEG places: 4x800 relay, third, 11:17.63 (Kelly Harden, Emily Prigge, Katie Crabtree, Sandra Quezada) 4x200, third, 1:56.83 (Schuller, Gretchen Ramaker, Maddie Wagner, Marnie Wagner); Mikayla Lindell, third, shot put, 34-11 and fourth, discus, 101-5; Maddie Wagner, third, high jump, 4-6; Katherine Lewer, third, pole vault, 6-6, fifth, 1600, 6:06.85 and sixth, 800, 2:46.15; 4x100 relay, fourth, 55.73 (Abby Crabtree, Maddie Wagner, Taylar Tieskotter, Marnie Wagner); Prigge, fourth, 400, 70.82; Ramaker, fourth, 200, 30.66; Tieskotter, fourth, triple jump, 28-8; Shanna Stencel, fifth, 200, 31.27; 4x400, fifth, 4:46.57 (Prigge, Harden, Katie Crabtree, Lewer).

“Our young girls are really doing a nice job for us,” said Ferber. “They are fearless. All in all I was pleased with the outcome of tonight’s meet.”

Weather canceled other plans to compete last week, including the Panther Invitational, which won’t be rescheduled. The Panthers are scheduled to run Friday, April 26 at Blue Earth.
