13U squad dominates tourney; NR to host Legion Baseball Final Four

The Quad Cities Baseball Association wrapped up its youth season July 20-21 by hosting the 13U tournament in New Richland. Eleven teams showed up, with the host team running away with the championship and 10-running all three teams they played, including a 13-3 drubbing of Maple River in the championship. It was a fun and successful day for youth baseball in the NRHEG towns.

The QCBA also held its raffle drawing on July 21. Winners include: Kari Harpel, Ellendale – $200; Ali Maye, Waseca – $100; Paul Wyrum, Hartland – $75; Ed Dahle, New Richland – $50; Terri Prigge, New Richland – $25; Paul Stene, Hartland – $25; Erica Klein, Eau Claire – $25; Carey Prigge, New Richland – $25. Thanks to everyone who purchased a raffle ticket to help support youth baseball in the NRHEG area.

The QCBA has one last event this summer. New Richland will play host to the Legion Baseball Final Four on July 26, 28, and 29.

The winner of this tournament will advance to the state Legion Baseball Tournament. Play begins July 26 at 5 p.m. with two games.

The Legion color guard will present the colors while Mr. Tim Siewert will lead the National Anthem on his trumpet.

July 28 will have three games beginning at 10 a.m. July 29 will crown the champion, with the game beginning at 2, possibly followed be one more, if necessary, in this double-elimination format.

Admission will be charged each day, but all proceeds will go to supporting New Richland’s Legion baseball team in 2013. Teams partipating are LaCrescent, Hayfield, Stewartville and Lake City.

One other area the QCBA plans to help with this summer is the proposed reconfiguration of the softball diamonds in New Richland. The organization hopes to work with the city and the school to make these fields look as nice as the baseball field by moving the fields apart and putting in better fencing and dugouts for the safety and comfort of players and fans.

Thanks to everyone who has helped with youth baseball in the past year, especially our youth team coaches. They put in many hours of donated time to give our kids a chance to play baseball. If anyone is interested in helping with youth baseball in any capacity, please contact Jeff Reese or Mark Domeier. T

The QCBA is currently seeking a new secretary after founding member Mark Querna has decided to step down. They are also looking for new board members who would like to help shape the future of baseball in our area.
