NEOMA JEAN JOHANSEN, age 88, of New Richland passed away surrounded by family on Thursday, May 16, 2024 at New Richland Care Center.
Born on February 20, 1936 in New Richland Township, Neoma was the daughter of Orland and Carol (Weed) Hagen. She graduated from New Richland High School with the class of 1953. After graduating, she began working for Roundbank as a bank teller. On August 29, 1954, Neoma was united in marriage to Kenneth Johansen at Trinity Lutheran Church in New Richland. She stayed at home to raise her five kids while doing the bookwork for the family business, Johansen Lockers. She returned back to work by working part time with Cahill Pharmacy in 1976 until returning to the bank.
Neoma worked for several other banks throughout Southern Minnesota before moving to Green Valley, Arizona where she and Ken lived for 17 years before retiring and moving back to Minnesota. She retired from working as the Green Valley Fire District Administrator. Together they spent their retirement years in New Richland and later in Janesville. Neoma had a knack for art. She was an award-winning knitter who won ribbons through the Waseca County Fair and would also make clothes. She also enjoyed tatting, painting, drawing, and baking, especially wedding cake decorating. She would be known to have a craft day with her friends and family once a month to share her talents. She loved to entertain and make everyone feel welcome. Neoma was also a founding member of Faith Lutheran Church in Janesville.
Neoma is survived by children, Jodelle Hess of Seattle, WA, Kris (Shannon) Johansen of Moore, OK, Janalee (Greg) Jacobson of Waseca, and Jeralyn (Steve) Price of Littleton, CO; 10 grandchildren, Brady Hess, Kypp (Tami) Hess, Joshua (Katrina) Jacobson, Zachary (Ashley) Jacobson, Kaleb (Brandy) Jacobson, Krisha Johansen, Jacob (Tiffany) Johansen, Keenan (Bekah) Johansen, Mackenzie Price, and Liam Price; 10 great grandchildren, Wyatt, Addilyn, Grahm, Rifften, Secret, Aura, Archie, Siryn, Krewden, Willow, Bearren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Johansen; parents, Orland and Carol Hagen; son, Kevin Johansen; daughters-in-law, Nancy Johansen and Karen Johansen; son-in-law, Steve Hess, siblings, Harlan Hagen, Darlene Dinse, Ordwin “Buzz” Hagen, Ordean “Bob” Hagen.
Funeral Service will be 2:00 PM on Friday, June 28, 2024 at Faith Lutheran Church in Janesville. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Interment will follow at Woodville Cemetery.
