Carol was born on June 18, 1925 to Henry and Clara Thompson. Third from the last of seven, she was the only child born in a hospital and the runt of the family, not expected to live. She did live to see her 96th birthday and passed away early on July 9, 2021. Her toughness met its match and she just couldn’t fight any longer. She was tired and ready to go.
She was so tough, in fact, that she outlived her parents, all her siblings, both husbands, a son-in-law, some nieces and nephews, and all of her cousins.
Carol graduated from Ellendale High School in 1943, then married Norman and had three children. They divorced. She married Maurice and had one child. She worked during her child-rearing years at a number of jobs. She happily retired from punching a time clock, wearing uncomfortable spike heels, and big hair, at the age of 45 for a much simpler life. She then became a landlord for many years. She sold her home in Albert Lea and built her dream home near Bixby on a quiet lake at age 70. There she had chickens, goats, and ducks and carried water and feed into her 80’s. She enjoyed the deer, geese, hummingbirds and all other wildlife. She loved to sew and was quite a seamstress in her younger years. More recently she made yo-yo dresser scarves from scraps of material like she had as a child. She gardened and had vegetables and flowers until age took hold. She spent many hours helping her children with their many endeavors. She’d pitch in and do anything and enjoyed being with her grandchildren.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Henry and James; four sisters, Oriet, Alene, Audrey, and Ann; husband Norman, infant daughter, Carolyn and infant son, Norman, husband Maurice, son-in-law Roy, and grandson, George.
She is survived by her children; Renee, Rick (Nancy), Renita (Mike), and Denise (Mark); grandchildren; Erika (Shannon), Andy (Eldon), Alex (Vikki), Jennifer, and Brian. Also her great-grandchildren; Zander, Brynna, Dylan, Clara, and William; and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Carol on Sunday, July 25, 2021 at Brick-Meger Funeral Home from 2 p.m. -4 p.m.. Carol will be going to her home, in her urn, to rest peacefully atop her player piano. For more information or to leave a condolence message go to www.megercares.com
