Yvonne Lucille Evenson, age 86, of Waseca, died peacefully on February 1, 2019, at Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Mankato. 

Funeral Service will be 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 17, at Starkson & Steffel Funeral & Cremation Service-McRaith Chapel of Waseca. Interment will be on a later date in Woodville Cemetery. Visitation will be for two hours prior to the service at the funeral home on Sunday. 

Memorials are preferred to the Waseca American Legion Post 228. 

Yvonne Lucille was born on April 2, 1932, on the family farm in rural Waldorf. The oldest of ten children born to Walter and Marie (Wallace) Stiernagle. Yvonne attended country school through 8th grade, then staying home  to help her parents with daily chores and raising her siblings. In 1952, Yvonne met Roger Evenson while he was on leave from the military. They were later united in marriage on September 6, 1952 in San Diego, CA. They lived in San Diego for a short time before making their forever home in Waseca. Together they raised three children and shared 31 year of marriage before Roger passed away on June 3, 1984. 

Yvonne worked at EF Johnson for several years before starting her own daycare which she continued for over 25 years. She was a fabulous cook and baker, famous for her fried chicken, lemon and banana bars. Yvonne was a huge sports fan, from following her children’s activities to religiously watching the Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Gophers. Together with her husband, they were very active in the Waseca American Legion where Yvonne devoted many hours to the monthly steak fries.Her family fondly remembers her as the most selfless, loving, caring, hardworking, person.  Above all else, her family meant the world to her and she meant the world to them. Blessed be her memory. 

Yvonne is survived by her children: Robert (Cheryl) Evenson, Ranae (Rick) Roberts, and Diane (Bill) Kortuem; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; her special friend  Lowell Root; two brothers; four sisters, seven brother-in-laws, six sister-in-laws, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 

Preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters and one brother.
